Someone Irresistible by Adele Ashworth

August 16, 2004

coverSet against the backdrop of the opening of the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, a paleontologist stands at the turning point of his career. He has discovered an artifact that will propel him from a young man of common background to a dinosaur expert of unquestionable merit. Adele Ashworth weaves a tale of love, betrayal, and forgiveness. Having been ruined at the turning point in his career, Nathan Price leaves in disgrace, only to return to clear his name. He enlists the help of the woman whom he should not trust.

Ashworth gives us a fascinating look at a period of English history not often studied carefully in the romance world - the 1850's. England stands with one foot in the industrial revolution, and the other in the old ways of peerage and title. The relationship between the main characters - Nathan, son of a miner, and Mimi, daughter of a lord - is complex not only due to their births, but also the scandal involving Nathan's fall from grace. The love scenes are highly charged, the participants are consenting adults - a widow set to seduce, no blushing virgins here. Ashworth answers the question of whether love can overcome betrayal, and forgiveness given without understanding.
