The Lady Chosen by Stephanie Laurens

August 04, 2004

coverAfter the immense success of her legion of Cynster novels, Stephanie Laurens has delivered us a new series. Recently home from Waterloo, seven former soldiers meet in a smokey bar to discuss what will become of them now that they have all left the military. Each, due to one reason or another, has surprisingly found themselves with a title, and each must assume their duties and marry. With the matchmaking mamas nipping at their heels, they form a club and a pact - each to find the right woman, and each to help the others in that goal. Thus the Bastion Club is formed.

With this in mind, Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, goes to London in order to secure secluded headquarters and lodgings for the Bastion Club. While he is overseeing the details of the establishment, he becomes captivated by the beautiful Miss Leonora Carling who lives next door. However the lady has no interest in marriage and has more pressing concerns on her mind - most concerningly the mysterious men who have repeatedly threatened her and her family when they refuse to sell their home. Tristan, having determined that Leonora is the only lady for him, embarks with military precision on the task of overcoming the threat to the Carling family, and winning the woman for his own.

Those familiar with Laurens's stories will not be disappointed in this latest edition. Written in much the same style as her previous works, one can expect high senuality, an arrogant but loving hero and a stubborn but feminine heroine. The Bastion Club series has all the earmarks of another hugely successful series for Laurens.
