Miss Olivia Bryde keeps notes on every eligible man in society, in a little journal she calls The Matchmaker. After a little midnight interlude at a houseparty in the country, she writes some rather scathing but deserving remarks about Lord Hawke. Lord Hawke is very much aware of his faults - they haunt his every moment and he cannot sleep for fear of nightmares.
In The Matchmaker, Rexanne Becnel takes a sympathetic look at alcoholism, war wounds of the mind, guilt, and stubbornness. Lord Hawke is a highly charismatic character and the reader will enjoy how he gets under Olivia's skin. His stunts, especially involving the Matchmaker book of hers, are hysterical - and Olivia and Hawke are a match you will relish watching come about. A rather short tale, you'll be sorry when it ends, although happily so. Therefore a request for Ms. Becnel - Perhaps Olivia could pass her Matchmaker down to her younger sister, Sarah, for a sequel?
