The Runaway Duke by Julie Anne Long

August 17, 2004

coverJulie Anne Long's debut romance The Runaway Duke is an excellent first for the San Francisco based novelist. Set in the Regency period not long after the Battle of Waterloo, a young lord is given an opportunity to leave his miserable life of title and responsibility, and start afresh.

Living the life of a head groom for the country gentry, Connor finds himself in a fix. He wants to get on with his life and go to America, but Rebecca, the young lady who just happens to be the daughter of his lord, is in dire need of aid. Unorthidox she most certainly is, but Connor cannot help but fall for the lovely heroine who dreams of freedoms a woman of her station rarely have the opportunity to enjoy. Long cleverly manages to give her couple exactly what they wish for - without breaking from the historical aspects of the novel. Highwaymen, Gypsies, Blackmailers and Murderesses - The Runaway Duke is a delightful, adventurous tale you're sure to enjoy!
