Each man has his own agenda which can only be achieved with the help of his half-brothers' help. Alec needs money and short term prestige in order to woo the heiress, Katherine Merivale. But she's no simple miss, and Alec soon realizes that he has his work cut out for him, but it will definitely be worth the effort. Jeffries adeptly weaves the plot such that we are well on the way to liking all three of the Brotherhood - their machinations are all of great interest. Katherine's childhood sweetheart - a poet - is a bit of a trial not just for Alec, our hero, but the reader as well. As Alec and Katherine find themselves falling in love, it's not surprising that the fact that Alec originally approached her as a fortune-hunter is going to cause a lot of trouble for these two strong-willed protagonists, and it keeps the plot tension high as the reader awaits the lurking explosion. The final critical scenes of the story were heart-rending and so satisfyingly concluded that we feel Sabrina Jeffries deserves a special thanks for yet another great novel. We look forward to reading the rest of The Royal Brotherhood series.
