Unlike many a story, Cathy Maxwell's Married in Haste is loosely based on a true couple whose story was once published in Great Britain Magazine. Brenn Owen, the new Earl of Merton, has a lovely estate in Wales, but it's falling apart, and he needs an heiress to restore it. Tess Hamlin is a bold heiress who can have her pick of the gentleman, but falls for the earl. That said, she has no intention of getting married, until a scandal erupts over a silly wager she and the other young misses entered into at a ball.
Suddenly, our fiery heroine is betrothed. Brenn thinks this must be too good to be true, and when he hears whispers of a secret, he jumps to some incorrect conclusions and doesn't notice that things are not quite right with his Tess. When Tess realizes her new husband's perfidy, she's understandably furious. The reader will enjoy all the hoops Brenn must jump through in order to regain the trust of his loving bride. A magical tale, Married in Haste is most special for its lovely setting in Wales and the charm of the two warm-hearted protagonists whom you'll love from the very start.
